Travel Lift Piers Design, Floating Dock System
CLE Engineering is working with the Owners of Fairhaven Shipyard to develop long range marine infrastructure improvements for their North Yard facility. To assess existing conditions, CLE compiled existing permits, licenses, and site surveys. CLE then performed a hydrographic survey, topographic survey, borings and standard penetration tests to classify the soil conditions. CLE utilized the site data to develop designs for travel lift piers at 400 ton capacity with the capacity for future use by a 600 ton travel lift with an alternate wheel configuration. CLE worked with the Owners to evaluate the cost/benefit of various material designs (i.e. concrete vs. steel) for the travel lift piers. CLE also developed plans for a concrete floating dock system to replace an existing timber pier to improve berth facilities for commercial vessels. CLE developed a pressure wash water pre-treatment system for the site and storm water improvements as part of the proposed site work. CLE applied for and obtained permits and construction was completed in 2011.
