Mare Island Dry Dock, LLC. (MIDD) dredged along Berths 13 and 15 from the Mare Island Shipyard (MISY) located along the Mare Island Strait in Vallejo, CA. MIDD has contracted CLE Engineering, Inc. (CLE) to perform sediment analysis, suitability determination, early season dredging episode approval and regulatory coordination in support of the maintenance dredging episode from Berths 13 and 15 with placement of material at the beneficial re-use site, Cullinan Ranch Restoration Site. Dredging Episode 4 consisted of maintenance dredging of approximately 80,000 cubic yards of material, which was completed in October 2014.
In December of 2014, CLE and MIDD worked with the regulatory agencies to obtain permission to dredge outside of the normal working windows in order to accommodate the specific draft needs of the USNS Montford Point. CLE submitted core samples for physical/chemical and biological analyses. Approximately 4,200 cy of material was removed from the Berth and the USNS Montford Point arrived as scheduled Mare Island Dry Dock with a berthing site available for the scheduled repairs.
The U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker ‘Polar Star’ arrived at Mare Island Dry Dock (MIDD) in April 2015 to undergo its required maintenance, critical repairs, and comprehensive safety inspections in support of the Operation Deep Freeze 2016 Mission. CLE obtained permission to dredge outside of the normal working windows under an extremely tight frame. Approximately 10,000 cy of material was removed from the area and placed at the beneficial reuse site, Cullinan Ranch Restoration Site.
