Horseneck Beach State Reservation
CLE Engineering, Inc. was awarded a contract to design dune crossings and to support the design of bath house facilities and improved central beach services facilities by providing survey, drainage design and permitting. This work is part of the major improvements proposed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport, MA. The reservation is located on a barrier beach with a dynamic dune system. Working with the DCR staff, and professional team members including architects and Landscape architects, CLE assessed the most suitable locations for dune crossings to provide public access to this popular beach. The design required consideration not only of the required public access, but also the challenging coastal environment and sensitive dune system, including regulatory approvals. CLE’s experience in public waterfront facilities was tapped to provide elevated dune crossings that incorporate structural stability, are consistent with architectural access board requirements, and are aesthetically pleasing. CLE’s involvement providing DCR with bid documents and construction management services.
