In 2012, CLE Engineering, Inc. was selected by the Town of Barnstable, MA to provide services including hydrographic and topographic surveys, feasibility studies and cost analysis, design, sediment sampling and analysis, permitting, bid document preparation and construction management and oversight services for the maintenance and improvement dredging within East Bay. The project included the removal of ±4,100 CY of fine-grained sediments to create a new Embayment Channel that provided access to/from the Town Boat ramp. Sediments were hydraulically dredged by a local Contractor and dewatered using geotube technology within a containment area located at the adjacent Dowses Beach Parking Lot. Once dewatered, fine-grained sediments were trucked off-site and re-used as fill at the Robert Childs Wood Waste Reclamation Facility in Dennis, MA. In addition, the project also consisted of the hydraulic dredging of ±5,000 CY of beach quality sand from the existing Entrance Channel by the Barnstable County Dredge. Sediments were hydraulically dredged and pumped approximately 2 miles to Long Beach where they were spread and beneficially re-used for nourishment of the beach and dune areas. Construction was completed in March 2014. The total cost of the project was $1.3 million.
