CLE Engineering was awarded a contract from the Town of Manchester-By-The-Sea for providing engineering, sediment sampling/testing and permitting services to conduct maintenance and improvement dredging within two historic basin areas located in Manchester Inner Harbor. The Inner Harbor is an active waterfront that presently contains a total of 700 moorings for recreational, commercial and transient vessels. Vessel access and navigational safety is severely compromised due to significant shoaling presently observed within the Inner Harbor. Dredging is necessary to restore navigational safety and access and to eliminate tidal restrictions on access due to existing shoaling. Improved accessibility within the Inner Harbor will also benefit local commercial marine services/operators, restaurants, retail shops and other businesses located along the waterfront. The project will consist of the mechanical dredging and unconfined offshore disposal of approximately 22,500 cubic yards of sediments at the Massachusetts Bay Disposal Site. Construction is anticipated to be performed during the Fall 2015 dredge season. CLE was selected by the Town based on its extensive dredging knowledge coupled with its relationships and ability to work through the regulatory agencies in an expedient manner.
